In the 1980's, the Vegas World became a successul casino and a huge moneymaker. The Vegas World was built by Stupak on a small site on the far North strip that once had been a car lot.
It filed for bankruptcy nine months later. It was replaced by the Stratosphere and its tower (the tallest structure west of the Mississippi River at 1,150 feet) in 1996. Founded by crazy LasVegas promoter, Bob Stupak, the Vegas World opened in mid-1979 (on a Friday the 13th, no less) and closed in 1995.
